Spring 2015 Shoes

L to R: Nicholas Kirkwood for Erdem lace-up gladiator @ Net-a-porter, Christian Dior elastic mesh boot, Acne 'Zane' boot with bamboo heel @ Acne, Giamba pale pink velvet platform sandal @ MyTheresa, Céline cowboy buckle sandal, Prada patchwork platform boot, Loewe black python drop heel pump, Céline soft ballerina pump, Miu Miu pointy toe ankle boot with bow @ Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton 'Instinct' half boot @ Louis Vuitton

Above are my favorite shoes of the current season.  I normally hate when designers show so many closed-toe options for spring/summer - come on, it's HOT - but as I have recently moved to a slightly more temperate climate, I am all about a serious statement boot for spring.  I love the idea of pairing the prim and pointy-toed styles from Dior and Miu Miu or the uber-70's interpretations from Vuitton and Prada, or even the ultra modern bamboo-heeled version from Acne (OK technically, these are from Resort) with a just-below-the-knee A-line skirt and a slightly oversized, boxy turtleneck.  As for flats, the gladiators at Erdem were the standout of the season for me.  That is, until I laid eyes upon the cowboy buckle flats from Céline.  I am dying to pair those with a skinny ankle jean, the boxy turtleneck I mentioned before, and a suede Loewe puzzle bag.  Loewe - bravo, JWA - also showed an amazing pair of organically formed pumps this season, and either those or the heeled ballerinas from Céline would be a perfect fashion-forward option for the office.  Finally, every wardrobe needs a shoe that is just plain pretty, and that is where Giamba comes in.  Valli's pale pink velvet platforms with their glittery heels would work just as well with the new cut of flared denim for day as they would with a super slinky slip or jumpsuit à la Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface by night.
