Dreaming of Dior Pre-Fall Accessories

 diorfallaccessories

I think everyone can unanimously agree that Raf Simons is on to something at Dior, and it's not merely down to opinion - couture sales at the house have jumped a staggering 24% since his appointment (how INSANE is that??).  And with his uncanny ability to blur the lines between couture and ready-to-wear, it's no surprise that his designs in the latter category are so highly covetable.  Now that Nicholas Ghesquière's unique vision is no longer streaming into stores,  I am looking to Simons to single-handedly fill the void in the marketplace for feminine futuristic tailoring.  Gone are the sci-fi elements that became somewhat of a hallmark of the partnership between Ghesquière and Balenciaga, yet the streamlined 50's silhouette remains in Simons' Pre-Fall collection for Dior.  And the opulent crystal and pearl jewelry showcased in the collection also brings to mind Ghesquiere's re-issues from the Balenciaga archives.  I am obsessing hard over the crystal neckpieces, but what really struck my eye were the double pearl "tunnel" earrings that at once look so perfectly modern and completely timeless.  And while the leather goods are a major step up from the Dior bags of the last decade, one clutch in particular is in a league of its own.  I don't yet know the model of the bag above, but it may be the most perfect hand held accessory so far to light up my computer screen.  And even though a new era for Balenciaga will be revealed in the coming weeks, I have already moved on...and it's all about DIOR.

P.S. - Also, thumbs up for houndstooth!
