For the Love of Fendi

The Fashion Spot, The Style Registry

As I was catching up on my favorite threads on the Fashion Spot the other day, I came across a picture of Mary Kate Olsen that really took me for a loop. She looked spectacular as always, but I had a total freak out moment as soon as my eyes scanned down to her bag. The bag I am referring to is an iconic piece from the Fendi Spring 2001 collection, and I remember this because I was totally obsessed with Fendi around that time - this bag in particular was on my mind daily for months on end, but I was never able to find one for myself because it was so freaking popular at the time. I have been on a subsequent eBay quest ever since, but I have never been able to get my hands on it (or another favorite wicker and pigskin studded beauty from the same collection). There are few things that I continue to obsess about for years on end, but there is something about early 2000's Fendi that I just can't quit. When I think of the label, I immediately get a sense of timeless luxury, but unlike other storied luxury houses that come to mind, there is an added sense of in-your-face attitude and quirk, which is how I like to think of my own style - eclectic and a just a bit loud, but ultimately formed around classic silhouettes and impeccable construction. Fortunately for Fendi fans like myself, Todd Selby just released a series of photographs on The Selby that provide an inside look at the construction of the brand, showcasing scores of luscious furs (Fendi does some of the best fur) in the Atelier and the unveiling of the Fendi x Maserati GranCabrio. Because, honestly, when you're draped in leather and your bag is spiked in gold, you just can't be seen stepping out of anything less fierce than that. Vroom!
